Born out of a personal journey and rooted in my professional role as a sustainability coordinator, this website stands as both a personal archive, a public, and professional offering:

Shades of Verde was born from a simple desire: to bridge the gap between curiosity and action. Too often, sustainability feels overwhelming, academic, or out of reach. This platform exists to change that. Here, complex topics are broken down into accessible lessons, everyday practices are shared with honesty and creativity, and resources are curated to serve both individuals and communities.

“Verde,” meaning green, reflects not just a color, but a spectrum. It reflects the different stages of how people think about and approach sustainability. Each shade is a reflection of our individual journey, and together, we form a mosaic of what it means to live, work, and build community with sustainability at the center. 

Hey, I’m Alexis! I'm an environmental scientist by education, a sustainability coordinator by profession, and a creative at heart.

My love for the planet started young, but it wasn’t until I studied Environmental Science that I realized how often good intentions don’t match real impact. I created Shades of Verde to bridge that gap. A platform that helps people not only want to do better, but know how.

At work, I help a nonprofit embed sustainable solutions into its operations and culture.  Beyond the workplace, I found myself constantly translating environmental concepts for friends and family, breaking down how everyday habits connect to bigger issues.  I realized all this information wasn’t doing much good just living in my head and I needed a space to share it.  And suddenly my passion, profession and creative spirit shook hands & Shades of Verde was born.

My purpose is to make sustainability personal, beautiful, and attainable, especially in urban and developed spaces, where the need and the potential for impact are immense. I believe in progress over perfection, in thoughtful living, and in community as a catalyst for change. At work, I’m the go-to for sustainable solutions. In life, I aim to model what I teach, while always staying open to learning more.
